Dear sir, My name is Ankita Pandey, I have completed my 12th from UP board (Arts Stream). I want to become an IAS officer. Just the economic barriers are constraining me from doing this. I am planning to enrol for BA programme from IGNOU this year. Sir I ask you to guide me which subjects to opt for in BA and also I cannot afford Coaching Institute fees so is there any option to prepare for it on my own? I need it badly, please understand. Thanks Ankita

Hi,

Preparation for Civil Services Examination doesn't necessitate coaching; every year lots of candidates do it with self-help and achieve success.

So, first remove this barrier from your mind.

For success in Civil Services Examination you need capability and commitment; you overcome meagre economic conditions when you focus your attention on your goal and give your best.

It is too early to make final decision about the subject as first you need to understand which subject suits you. It is all about interest and familiarity with the subject and understanding the related demands each subject has.

To begin with you can pick NCERT Books for some of the subjects like History, Geography, Sociology, Economics, and Political Science that are constituents of General Studies syllabus for Preliminary as well as Main Examination.

This will strengthen your basics and will give you conceptual clarity.

You also start reading at least 2 newspapers (one national daily like The Hindu or Indian Express and one regional newspaper) daily to be abreast with the latest.

Take small steps and try on be consistent with preparation.

The following article will give you some insights about planning your foray in to Civil Services Examination.
