Replying to the questions raised by Dr. E M Sudarsana Natchiappan in Rajya Sabha on 26th August 2010, Minister of States in the Prime Minister’s Office and in Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Shri Prithviraj Chavan confirmed that Government has approved the proposal of introducing Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in place of existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.

In CSAT, one of optional subject which a candidate could have chosen out of 23 optional subjects is being replaced with a common paper on aptitude test.

The Civil Services Aptitude Test is expected to come into force from CSE 2011.
