When we come up to selection for top posts like Indian Administrative Service; with CSE 2007 results, the ground-breaking success of Simran Deep Singh broke the jinx.
After a gap of more than a decade, his success ended the drought that terror campaign hit Jammu and Kashmir youth faced for a long extended period.
Simran Deep cracked coveted Civil Services Examination 2007 in first attempt and got selected for the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (Jammu and Kashmir cadre).
The virtue of courage illustrated by Simran Deep Singh drew immediate attention as he displayed commitment and diligence in cracking the mother of all examination – Civil Services Examination in first encounter.
His success gained more significance as from early 90’s, the terror campaign hit Jammu and Kashmir had not seen any one from the state achieving big success in Civil Services Examination; but, lure of coveted all India Services like IAS, IPS kept the hopes alive among the youth from Jammu and Kashmir.
Ardent fan of some of the previous years’ toppers Simran Deep drew inspiration from successful candidates. To get some insights, he had a collection of interviews of top-rankers like Ankur Garg, Nagarajan, Roopa Mishra, Mona Pruthi, Muthyala Raju Revu, Gourav Goyal and many other toppers.
For Simran Deep, it has been a childhood dream as he decided to become IAS officer when he was in 5th standard. Looking at the District Magistrate, unfurling the National Flag on Republic Day as a kid, kindled a spark and he just dreamt to do the same one day.
After 12th standard, Simran Deep got serious about his endeavor and had chosen his subjects for graduation as per his plan.
A Jammu University graduate, Simran Deep planned his attempt well in advance; with perfect execution, he accomplished the task in first attempt and became one of the youngest IAS Achiever.
As a part of preparation, he was an avid reader of newspapers and magazines during graduation. After completing graduation in May 2006 he indulged in serious preparation for Civil Services Examination and came to Delhi for guidance.
Few months later, he went back to Jammu and continued preparation with self-help.
At age of 21, taking first attempt was emotive; moreover, the introduction of negative marking in Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2007 made it a bigger challenge, so, he was low on confidence.
However his strategy, as he emphasized more on his optional subjects (Geography-Geology), helped him accomplish the task in style.
His secret of success had been following a strict time-table that he charted for himself and ensured to stick to it on day-today basis. Besides, writing and revising what he read everyday proved to be really helpful.
Like many other IAS toppers, Simran Deep Singh is an icon and attracting attention of the educated and aspiring youth and motivating them.
His success enthused youngsters from J&K to take up the challenge and that followed by series of successes year after year and we saw candidates like Raghav Langer, Priyanka Dhar, Shah Faesal and many more who became an inspiration for Jammu and Kashmir youth.Last Update Sunday 18th August 2019
