Civil Services Examination is a craze; still, many myths and wrong notions surround this examination sometimes forces many talented and deserving candidates to give it a pass.

However, this examination is both challenging and demanding; still, it is within reach of the candidates who demonstrate complete dedication towards it.

This is the time of year when many fresh graduates make up their mind to try their luck with Civil Services Examination. Each time I write, my endeavour is that these articles give you a little confidence and some insights to face the fierce competition boldly.

Talk to a youngster who has just started thinking of making career choice and career in ‘Civil Services’ comes as one of the career options available.

When one make up mind to decide about ‘Civil Services’ as the career and for many candidates, their first reaction is No, not for me; it is too big a challenge. It is really tough and out of my reach. Moreover chances of success are bleak.

There are indeed some doubts, fear and apprehensions around Civil Services Examination which initially obstruct their decision.

Usually what we hear is:

  • Sorry, don’t know how to go about it...,
  • I am not so strong in study...,
  • In academics, I always got 2nd/3rd division...,
  • My expression is really weak...,
  • My writing speed is slow...,
  • My control over language and vocabulary is weak...,
  • My expression is really pathetic..., 
  • I don’t have the skill about the endeavour...,
  • Some say, this exam is for those with humanities background candidates only...,
  • While humanities background candidates feel science and professional studies background candidates find it easier to succeed...,

Arguments doesn’t end here; we hear many excuses such as:

  • With almost a million applicants, Prelims has become a sort of lottery…,
  • With new pattern for Preliminary as well as Main Examination in place it is difficult to handle...
  • There is a lot of subjectivity involved.

Add to all these, diverse opinion and search for an effective preparation strategy compounds the dilemma for aspirants.

As a result many candidates give up the idea of appearing in Civil Services Examination before they even start.

You have all what it takes to be successful in Civil Services Examination

A quote from Walt Disney explains it all, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Civil Services Examination preparation is usually summed up in three ‘C’ and these words are: Courage-Capability-Commitment.

You have capability; but, sometimes negative thoughts don’t allow you to assess what you are really capable of achieving.

In the beginning, all you need is to show courage and commit fully toward the GOAL. You have a strong desire, little knowledge and some skills; you just need confidence and determination to take on this fierce competition. 

This examination is not as difficult as you perceive. First, you know a little about it before saying ‘No’. It is big; no doubt. But, it is within your reach and with a bit of planning and systematic study-plan, you too can achieve success in Civil Services Examination.

What hold the candidates back ?

Whatever the reason may be, most of the time it is lack of confidence and unnecessary worries hold the candidates back. This examination is both challenging and demanding for the candidates as it requires them to demonstrate the dedication towards it. When others can work hard to succeed, why can’t you?

The process engage you in a long-stretch involving 3 stage selection structure to assess your inner knowledge, the ability to use the resources at your disposal and requires you to be tough, examination focused and committed.

Don’t allow any of these negative feeling come in the way: In, Civil Services Examination, there is no scope for expressing regrets.

Be optimistic

This examination is for optimists, who dream big achieve success. Every year common students amongst you makes their dreams come true and every year hundreds of such success stories are written.

Even, some candidates accomplish the task in their first attempt itself and make career in ‘IAS’.

So, what are you waiting for? Have faith in your capabilities and show courage to appear in Civil Services Examination.

May be next time it's you who does it in first attempt and become source of inspiration for many.
