For Civil Services Examination preparation, people talk about e-paper but if you are comfortable reading e-papers, then only you should read the internet editions of newspapers.

Initially, it would be difficult for a beginner to understand the structure and site-map of any internet edition of newspaper to search the important news items stacked under different headings/segments.

For a beginner, it is better to read print edition of any good national daily. By scanning headings in print edition, you can manage things in lesser time.

You start with headlines on front page and look for the prominent news items from National/International importance. As you move on to next pages, hunt for significant news items from economy, polity, judiciary, new acts/policies/initiatives/programs, environment, science & technology, industry and sports etc.

Don’t forget to read editorial page which will help you in forming opinion and broaden prospective.

Cultivate habit of making notes on the major issues and happenings for your reference.

You should read at least one magazine along with newspapers as you are served relevant material at one place that too in compact format. This will save a lot of time as you don’t need to search around for important information.
