Nandini K.R. Tops Civil Services Examination, 2016; 1099 candidates selected

Civil Services Examination 2016 final result has been declared by UPSC on 31st May 2017. A total of 1099 candidates have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various Services.

Once again female candidate Nandini K R took the crown by topping Civil Services Examination 2016. 2nd Rank has been grabbed by Anmol Sher Singh Bedi and Gopal Krishna Ronanki has got 3rd rank.

The first stage of the examination, Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2016 was conducted on 7th August, 2016. Total applicants this time were 11,35,943 candidates, out of which 4,59,659 candidates actually appeared in Preliminary Examination.

15,452 candidates cracked Preliminary Examination and got qualified for appearance in the Written (Main) Examination held in December, 2016.

2961 candidates got qualified for the Personality Test conducted by UPSC in March-May, 2016.

On the basis of Main Examination (Written) plus Interview performance finally 1099 have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various Services.

Out of 1099 candidates 846 are men and 253 women candidates. It includes 44 Physically Handicapped candidates (22 Orthopedically Handicapped; 07 Visually Challenged and 15 Hearing Impaired).

First rank Nandini K.R. belongs to OBC category and she cracked the examination with Kannada Literature as her optional subject. She has graduated with BE (Civil Engg) degree from M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore.

Second rank Anmol Sher Singh Bedi, the topper among male candidates has graduated with B.E. degree in Computer Science from BITS, Pilani.

4th rank Saumya Pandey from Allahabad has made it with Geography as optional subject.

The Profile of top 25 candidates

  • Among top 25, 18 are men and 07 women.
  • Educational qualification-wise the top 25 candidates comprise candidates belonging to Engineering; Sciences; Economics and Forestry background graduating from premier Institutions of the country such as IITs, NIT, ISM, BITS Pilani, VIT, MSRIT, DCE, DU, Anna University etc.
  • Optional subjects of the top 25 candidates in the examination ranged from Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Anthropology, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, History, Mathematics, Political Science & International Relations, Public Administration, Psychology and Kannada & Telugu Literature.
