Sarneet Kaur Broca, B.Tech, Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi) has grabbed 39th rank in Civil Services Examination 2015.
It was her third attempt and she picked Chemistry as optional subject.
A Chemical Engineer, Sarneet Kaur Broca having penchant for doing something meaningful aspired to be a bureaucrat so that she can have a career that gives her a chance to serve the nation and the society.
As she observes, the diverse nature of work ‘Civil Services’ offers and the challenges accompanying it will keep her motivated and keep going through out the career-span.
Coming from a business family, Sarneet had the liberty to choose her own career-path. Unlike general perception where parents insist their wards to go for lucrative career that chase wealth, her parents motivated her to study and let weave her own story.
Throwing light on the constructive role her family played in her career growth Sarneet said, “My parents always maintained that I should listen to my heart and do something meaningful rather than following herd-mentality. My father Pritpal Singh Broca and mother Jatinder Kaur Broca own a Construction Company and even my elder Brother Ravneet Singh Broca is also in same business; but, I was given complete freedom to take control of my own track.”
“I owe my success to my family as their unconditional support during my preparation days kept me going” she said.
Explaining about her career choice ‘Civil Services’ Sarneet said, “I was never a job-hunter, very early in life Career-Planning was done. I always desired challenging work environment and that became the primary factor why I looked at ‘Civil Services’ as a career option.”
“Due to the stimulating settings it offers, my gut-feel says, it will help me realise my potential. It gives me a chance to give back to my nation and people. Further, the social recognition of the work attracts me as well. All these characteristics together make civil services a job I truly desire. It gives me an opportunity to contribute to the building of my nation” she added.”
Revealing the secret of her success Sarneet said, “It’s no secret; hard work, smart study and self-belief. As things didn’t work in favour in first two attempts, I could pinpoint what is limiting from reaching destination; thus was able to identify the areas that I needed to develop.”
“I had everything right from Essay to my optional subject that was under control and I sincerely hoped that this time my efforts will deliver.”
I got the right advice on preparation plan from my seniors at IIT, teachers and websites and Smart study, revision and good answer writing skills contributed the most in getting top ranks.
It was truly satisfying to find my name attached to 39th rank in Civil Services Examination 2015.
