Computer Science (B.Tech) graduate, Vidhya Sagar Naidu V from Hyderabad has cracked Civil Services Examination 2015 in his second attempt and has secured 101st rank in merit-list that got him post in Indian Police Service (IPS).

He kept History as optional subject.

Introducing himself, Vidhya Sagar said, “We are a small family; my parents, me and a younger sister, Vidhya Dhari Naidu who completed her intermediate recently. My father V.Thyagaraju works in Indian Railways (South-Central Railways as a Senior Work Study Inspector) and mother VSLK Durga Devi is a housewife. My birth place is Narasapuram in West Godavari district of Andhra, but my schooling up to 7th standard happened in Dornakal of Warangal district of Telangana and since 8th standard, we settled down in Hyderabad.”VASANA-VIDHYA-SAGAR-NAIDU-ips-topper-upsc-cse-2015-history

He commenced Civil Services Examination preparation immediately after completion of graduation in 2013 and appeared in CSE 2014 but, couldn’t clear first stage –Preliminary Examination. But, worked carefully on his backup plan and didn’t cloud mind with destructive thoughts with “what if I don’t make it”

REcounting his on-going efforts, Vidhya Sagar said, “I had been appearing in Combined Defence Services Exam (CDS) and cleared all the three times since 2013; but, did not attend the interview. So, I knew I am on right track and just have to be persistent and my capabilities will help me reach my destination.”

To me, motivation to appear in Civil Services Examination came from two sides – first from parents and second a few factors that this service offers and as Vidhya Sagar put it, “While preparing for Civil Services Examination, I never let them get out of my mind.”

Acknowledging the contribution for success he said that there are a lot of persons and factors:

First I will talk about persons - My parents, my sister, both my maternal uncles and their families, my friends who always believed that I have that potential to succeed and last but not the least the people who underestimated me in my journey.”

He added, “To be honest, my father was keen to join Civil Services but, due to some personal compulsions he couldn’t pursue his dreams; but, since my childhood my parents put the idea of civil services into my mind.”

I was exposed to an environment where some of my father’s friends in ‘Civil Services’ inspired me and my inquisitive nature; the traits to question things and try for something new wherever I went help me handle this preparation effectively.

Coming to factors that fascinated me towards this glittering career Vidhya Sagar said, “I always had this urge to change something within the system, bring in new practices and wanted the system to be flexible with changing times, to play my part in this change. Civil Services is the right path.

My parents always made sure that I see the realities of the society with an open mind and urged me to try find solutions for them. For this, obviously The All India Services are the right forum and that’s why I kept this dream alive since my childhood. I am fortunate am I being able to live up to expectation and starting my career with post in ‘Indian Police Service’.

Sharing his experience Vidhya Sagar said that if an aspirant keeps in mind few things, they can never lose track of this:

  • Study for your sake and your parent’s sake and not for anyone else.
  • Study for the sake of happiness and fame you are going to get by clearing one of the toughest exams on earth.
  • Work hard to become the beacon of inspiration to people like you in the future and for being a crucial part in your country's growth.
  • Time waits for none.
  • And failure is the best teacher.
  • This is an exam which rewards smart thinking and out of box ideas.
  • Becoming a Civil Servant is another thing; to become that one should start behaving like one with responsibility towards the society and people around him.
  • If you want something very keenly, then this exam is the one which rewards people with passion and nature of rectifying their mistakes and move on with optimism.
  • Keep aside the standards till date, raise your bar...Set new standard for many to follow.
