Marks comparison between Tina Dabi (AIR 1; English Medium) & Anuradha Pal (AIR 62; Hindi Medium)

Some attempts have been made to create some confusion among Hindi medium candidates that UPSC doesn’t award Hindi medium candidates good marks and there is some bias UPSC show towards Hindi medium candidates.

Fact is evident from comparison of marks between Tina Dabi (AIR 1; CSE 2015) and Anuradha Pal (AIR 62; CSE 2015) top ranker with Hindi medium that Hindi medium candidates also put up decent show and are suitably rewarded for their efforts.

English medium candidate Tina Dabi (AIR 1; CSE 2015) had Political Science & International Relations as optional subject and Anuradha Pal (AIR 62; CSE 2015), top ranker with Hindi medium had picked up History as optional subject.

If we see the comparison in the marks, Tina Dabi scored 1063 marks while 940 is the aggregate for Anuradha Pal – a difference of 123 marks that made the difference in ranking 1 and 62 respectively.

Tina Dabi has a very balanced score and leaving aside Essay Paper where Anuradha has score one mark more; Tina has a wide gap in each question paper - General Studies, Optional Subject and even in Personality Test.

After looking at score, you will reach at a conclusion that interpretation is wrong that Hindi medium candidates don’t get good marks. If such is the case, Anuradha would not have got this rank.

By any standards, Anuradha's score cannot be termed as average of mediocre.
