7th rank, Chanchal Rana from NALCO Nagar (Orissa) has cracked the most prestigious Civil Services Examination 2013 in his third attempt. He is of the opinion that Civil Services Examination preparation gives you chance to learn and improve your awareness level so much that you can be successful in any sphere of life.
On June 12, the moment results were announced, a glance at the names in top 20-25 successful candidates in merit-list, made me stop at 7th rank Chanchal Rana, a familiar name with whom I had interacted last year also when CSE 2012 results were out. To confirm, I called him up and from other side, feeling of accomplishment was clearly evident in his talks.
In his third attempt, Chanchal Rana, 26, from NALCO Nagar (Orissa) has cracked the most prestigious Civil Services Examination 2013 achieving top rank in the merit-list.
In his first attempt, Chanchal faced interview, but couldn’t find name in merit-list. In second attempt, he secured AIR-219 that got him Indian Police Service (IPS) and he is presently undergoing training at SVP National Police Academy, Hyderabad.
Not satisfied with the attainment, he continued his efforts and his third attempt helped him improve his rank that ensures the post of Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
While exchanging views about ‘Civil Services’ as career destination, he said “Two factors prompted me to join first, parental resistance and second, preparation itself.
My parents suggested not to try for Civil Services Examination as they wanted me to pursue MBA so that I can get openings in new-age careers. With choice wide-open, I can have instant career opportunities in other areas. They resisted not because it is tough but, apprehended that it may take lot of time.
Second factor is more exciting as the Civil Services Examination preparation gives you chance to learn and improve your awareness level so much that you can be successful in any sphere of life. You read so much that you learn wide range of information has helps in facing anything, anywhere in life”
Candid in his talks, he said, “I have tremendous loyalty to my parents and I am fortunate, I got job immediately after completing B Tech (Electrical Engineering) from NIT, Silchur; that more or less fulfilled my parent’s wish as I got selected in Indian Oil Limited and was in Barauni Refinery from 2010-2013. I left my job only to join IPS after my selection last year.”
So, how he got time to prepare for Civil Services Examination with such hectic schedule, I asked. In heart-to-heart conversation, Chanchal disclosed his strategy. He said, “I could continue study despite in service as in Public Sector undertaking job it was not that tough to get time for preparation.
I maintained punctuality in my preparation and I started preparation for this examination with daily 5 hours study-schedule and now, when I have concluded, it is with the identical timetable. I continued to spare 5 hours study even in this attempt as well” he added.Last Update Sunday 20th July 2014
