Mains Examination: Set sight on excellent performance

Be it Preliminary, Main Examination or Interview, many candidates look out for cut-off to make own strategy while preparing for Civil Service Examination.

Mains (Written) Examination is the real test and your excellent performance can put you in safe zone and equally brilliant show in Interview can ensure higher rank i.e. Post of IAS can be in sight.

It depends upon the strategy you adopt to get this figure – through your optional subjects, General Studies and Essay. Contribution from each may vary from person to person but, your overall aggregate need to be in the range you target.

Written cut-off sometimes usually depends upon the number of vacancies and the toughness of the question asked in Main Examination papers. Generally, those who score approx 1000 marks in written examination, get call for Interview stage.

In some cases, the cut-off may go lower as was seen in Civil Service (Main) Examination 2011 written result; but, keep a target to achieve approx 1000 marks in written examination to secure birth for the next stage of the examination – Interview.

If you get luck and score anywhere around 1100 marks in Main Examination, you can feel secure about prospects of getting IAS if you perform well in Interview.

Overall score of anything about 1300+ out of total 2300 marks ensures superior rank.

This is a vague idea purely based on observation only to inspire you about the minimum effort required at Main Examination level.
