Pick a pair of subjects which lend a hand in your success

This is the first time the candidates are preparing optional subjects for Mains Examination alone. As per the new design, you need to choose 2 optional subjects for Main Examination only.

The list for optional subjects available for Mains is long which includes a host of subjects to choose from humanities, science and specialized professional studies.

As the job of Civil Servants requires openness to new ideas, planning, their ability to synthesize and integrate information with clearly understanding prospective and values of the situation, it is important for the recruitment agency  to evaluate these qualities in the future Civil Servants.

Many subject combinations are popular and deliver outstanding results. In CSE 2010 results, the pair of Public Administration-Geography seems to be the most popular combination.

However, the criteria of picking the optional subject should be rational. It should not be picked mare on the basis of ‘some topper has succeeded or very good results are visible.’

The success in Civil Services Examination is all about knowledge, capability and commitment. You need to assess yourself and before you say yes to any subject, make sure you have chosen the subject with which you can put up a honest show.
