Food inflation comes down sharply; at 7 weeks low

Some respite in sight as the food inflation, ending the three week rising trend, saw the sharpest decline in the recent weeks as prices of potatoes and pulses fell during the week ended January 29, 2011.

As per data released on February 10, 2011, the food inflation stood at 13.07 per cent, a seven-week low, showing a drop of four percentage points over last week’s figure of 17.05 per cent.

In view of the bumper crop, it is anticipated that in next few weeks, the food inflation should show southward trajectory.
